Education Centre Cayar
In August 2008, the foundation "It's Your Turn” launched the project Education Centre Cayar. The aim is to make people more independent and to encourage them to take action by offering practical courses and trainings. The Education Centre also offers accommodation and facilities to Dutch students who - along with local youth - working on educational projects in Cayar.
The Education Centre consists of three parts:
Part 1 – Residence supervision (tutors) and IYT staff / students from the Netherlands.
Part 2 – Research and Education Centre
Part 3 – Sports Centre
The Education Centre will be a location where:
• The local youth can do courses, workshops and trainings.
• Students from Delft (The Netherlands) and Dakar (Senegal) can work together on new and sustainable future perspectives.
• Students of Hogeschool INHolland can help out the local youth in starting small businesses.
What has been achieved?
The construction of the rear part of the centre (part 1) has been completed and is now open. In cooperation with TU Delft, “It's Your Turn” inventories the equipment for the construction and design of the study area (part 2). The Sports Centre (part 3), at the front of the building, is under construction. In the Sports Centre will come a surf school which provide sport and recreation facilities for the youth in Cayar.
